The Friends of Oberlin Village are thrilled to announce our 2nd Annual Oberlin Village Heritage 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, June 17th, Juneteenth Weekend 2023.
Due to Dix Park renovation, the race will take place this year at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC.
All event proceeds will support the Friends of Oberlin Village in raising public awareness and preserving Oberlin’s rich history, contributions, and achievements.
This is a celebration for all members of the family and there will also be a Kids Dash at 9:00 am for children 8 & under who will receive a medal for participating.
The mission of the Friends of Oberlin Village is to preserve, protect, and honor the establishment of Oberlin Village through community awareness, outreach, and education. Friends of Oberlin Village is a non-profit volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organization honoring Oberlin Village, one of the last known surviving free and freedmen's villages in the state of North Carolina that grew out of an antebellum Free Black settlement.
Our love of history, education, and humanity has enabled our humble and steadfast group to elevate the preservation, recognition, and education of Oberlin Village locally and nationally.
In 2022, we hosted a total of 580 registered participants, raising just short of $20,000. We’re hoping for an even better event this year! Come celebrate Juneteenth weekend with us!
Advanced Check-In & Registration

Early Packet Pickup will be available on Friday 6/16, from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, at Fleet Feet Village District at 430 Woodburn Rd., Raleigh. You are welcome to pick up packets for others. All participants receive a numbered race bib which must be worn visible in FRONT.
Race Day Schedule
- Race Day Check-In & Registration: 6:30 - 7:45 AM
- Group Warmup - 7:40am
- 5K Walk/Run – 8:00 am
- Kids Dash – 9:00 am (age 8 & under)
- Race Awards - 9:15 am
- Acknowledgements - 9:30 am
5K Registration Fees:
- Early registration: $30
- April 1: $35
- June 1: $40
- June 16: $45
Registration includes a race t-shirt for those who register by May 1 (or until each size is sold out).
No dogs are allowed to participate in the race.
Kids Dash (8 & under) Registration Fee:
Registration includes a race medal.
